OCIA
"Like some spark lighting upon our inmost soul, love was kindled and burst into flame with us — a love for the holy Word, the most lovely object of all, who attracts everyone irresistibly toward Himself" (St. Gregory of Neocaeserea)
OCIA
WELCOME TO THE ST. THOMAS MORE CO-CATHEDRAL OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) page formerly known as the RCIA.
PLEASE SEE THE AREAS BELOW THAT MAY PERTAIN TO YOU
Classes will take place on Sundays at 10:10 am in the upstairs classrooms, 1 2 & 3 starting September 8, 2024.
UNBAPTISED PERSON SEEKING OR DISCERNING BECOMING A ROMAN CATHOLIC *
BAPTIZED NON-CATHOLIC SEEKING OR DISCERNING BECOMING A ROMAN CATHOLIC*
BAPTIZED CATHOLIC SEEKING CONFIRMATION**
*Typically, the newcomer spends three months in an inquiry group, which is designed for any non-Catholic who wants to learn more about the Church in a low-key, pressure-free setting starting September 2024.
The inquirer then moves on to the Catechumenate. These OCIA classes start in January 2025.
The length of time spent in Inquiry and Catechumenate may vary depending on the individual. These weekly online classes are meant for both non-baptized individuals and for those who are baptized in other faiths and are seeking a deeper knowledge of the Catholic Faith. On occasion, these classes are also for baptized Catholics seeking Confirmation who have little to no catechesis or teaching of the Catholic faith.
Individuals seeking baptism are baptized, confirmed, and receive Holy Eucharist during the Easter Vigil Mass. Baptized Christians from other denominations seeking to join the Catholic Church by making a Profession of Faith will have an opportunity to do so during Mass before the Easter Vigil.
**CONFIRMATION This class is for those who are baptized Catholics and are seeking confirmation. This is a separate class than for those who are non-baptized or non-Catholic. The Rite of Confirmation is a sacrament that continues the welcome and belonging that began with baptism and has continued with the Eucharist. Confirmation deepens our relationship with God and strengthens us to live lives of faith and mission.
For further information about Confirmation, please contact Deacon Andy Grosmaire [email protected].
