Scouting

Scouting provides the opportunity for boys and girls to plan activities, learn self reliance, and develop decision making skills with the support and guidance of skilled adult leaders. The emphasis is always on personal growth and service to God and others.

The Department of Youth Ministry provides materials and assistance for the scout to earn his/her respective religious scout medal. A Diocesan Scout Chaplain is appointed by the Bishop to work with the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting. The scout chaplain works to provide programs that will enhance the scout’s opportunity to grow in Christian maturity.

Girl Scouting

For Girl Scouts the Department of Youth sponsors a retreat each year. Those girls working on the Marian Medal are invited to spend the weekend with others working on the same medal to fulfill one of their requirements. This retreat takes place under the direction of a trained qualified girl scout leader at a local parish.

Brownie Girl Scouts (Ages 6-8)
Going Places, Making New Friends
Brownie Girl Scouts work together in groups, earn Brownie Girl Scout Try-Its, and explore their community. Friendship, fun, and age-appropriate activities begin at the Brownie Girl Scout meeting and move out to the community and wider world.

Junior Girl Scouts (Ages 8-11)
Explorations, Fun, and Best Friends Forever Junior Girl Scouts earn badges and discover what girl power is all about through new activities and by learning to take charge of their own plans. They gain self-confidence as they explore the world in partnership with their troop/group leaders.

Girl Scouts (Ages 11-17)
Ready to Become, Belong, Believe, and Build Girls ages 11-17 participate in Girl Scouting in many ways. Under the guidance of a trained adult advisor, girls mix and match activities and resources to suit their needs while giving back to their communities. They connect with each other and build self-esteem and confidence in their skills as they work on a range of projects and gain life experiences.

Girl Scouts of the USA and Camp Fire USA:
Partners in Youth Ministry Today, when youth ministers and Girl Scout or Camp Fire leaders get together, they share resources and learn from one another. This positive, cooperative relationship enables these adults to effectively serve Catholic young people. Partnerships include work on service projects, retreats, program activities, and camping to name a few... Click here for Scouting Information for girls.
